Lowland Barn

This barn beckons to the imagination as one drives by on Interstate 70, and we have to wonder how peaceful it was before the big noisy concrete highway arrived. Who can blame the family that lived here for moving, rather than listen to the incessant sounds of the big rigs, motorcycles and other traffic going by at 75 mph. It's a traditional gambrel roof hay barn, with shed roof added on the East side. Probably built around the 1940s. No one lives here now but the cows, the grasshoppers, the field mice, and the snakes. And plenty of crows. .. .. This structure accompanies Lowland Silo as one of several scenic, but abandoned and deteriorating, buildings on this rural Colorado crossroads farm. Another example of iconic Western culture that will never be physically preserved.
