"Low-Friction Spool Roller" was designed to be used with the "Top Mount Spool Holder"* by bdwalker which sits atop the TEVO Black Widow printer.
I was worried filament spools dragging on a fixed shaft might cause the extruder head to bounce, so I designed a spool tube with rollers that can be used in place of a static tube.
"Low-Friction Spool Roller" suspends the inner core of the filament spool on three rollers to let it spin freely with almost no friction. The 3D printable rollers are borrowed from Creative Tools' Universal Stand-Alone Spool Holder** (an excellent holder), even the shafts for the rollers are just cut lengths of 1.75mm filament.
Although the wall of the tube is strong enough to support any 1kg filament spool, additional structural support was added to equalize heat distribution to prevent warping & splitting when printing in ABS on an open bed printer. Flats were added to keep the tube from rotating in the cradles. It's designed to be printed w/o any need for internal supports although a Touching Buildplate or Raft is recommended.
Printed using 1.75mm ABS in CURA v15.04.6 w/Support @10% Touching Buildplate w/Brim.
STL's are included for two tubes: 85mm and 120mm (the latter for holding wider 4-color 1.3kg spools). Each STL includes three printable roller wheels.
