The 1,7 kilometers long New Little Belt bridge crosses the Little Belt strait between Jylland and Fyn island in Denmark. Total suspended length is 1080 meters and the longest span is 600 meters long. Maximum clearance is 44 meters during mean high water. The bridge was built between 1965 and 1970 to help the congestion on the old Little Belt bridge. The heated deck carries six lanes of Funen motorway E20. The deck is made of 45 elements which are made of two 12 meter long steel box sections welded together and are shaped aerodynamically to resist sideways movement in crosswind. The two towers are 170 meters tall, of which 118 meters is above waterline. They were casted from concrete 2,3 meters at a time. During construction the mold moved upwards by cranes and 3 meters could be casted in a day. The suspension cables are 1500 meters long and 600 millimeters thick and each consists of 61 subcables. One subcable weighs 35 tons, making the two suspension cables some 4300 tonnes in weight. The bridge is toll free and on average more than 50 000 vehicles cross it every day.
