Lighthouse Breskens, also called the Lighthouse Nieuwesluis, stands a few kilometers west of the village core Breskens in the Dutch province of Zeeland. The lighthouse was designed by Quirinus Harder and was built in 1866-1867. The octagonal tower is painted black and white and stands on the seafront at the entrance of the Westerschelde. The tower has a height of 28.4 meters and has five floors. He is part of a series of lights that mark the end of the Schelde and guides the ships between Antwerpen and the North see. This tower is the oldest surviving cast iron lighthouse in the Netherlands after the lighthouse in Renesse in 1915 was demolished and cast iron rod of Ouddorp disappeared in 1911. The tower was not always black and white, but was at first yellow and was then covered with red and white bands. The optics of the tower was made by Barbier, Benard & Turenne. The light house has a copper dome. During the Second World War, the lighthouse was out of action for some time and painted with camouflage colors #1866 #Breskens #Lighthouse #nedreland #netherland #q_harder #vuurtoren
