Basically the same. But I've decided to remove some options (variable diffusers and such) and concentrate on making printing and building this easier.
The LED grid itself is the same, so are the electronics. So sketches running on LGCv1 should work out of the box on v2, there's some remixes out there.
Currently I'm not that eager to copy/paste the complete documentation on thingiverse because of various reasons. Formatting/markdown not working in custom sections being one of them, missing captions to pictures one of the many others... and I just noticed it sometimes takes ages for the changes to appear after editing a thing...
