The pump station was designed 1919/1920 by Willem Marinus Dudok. It could be argued that this noble little pump station provided a precident for the design of utility buildings all around the world, similar to what the Raadhuis did for major civil monuments. The adjacent park designed by Dudok and J.H. Mayer was built as a public employment project to offset hard economic times. The pond is about 1ha with two islands. The excavated sand was used to sculpt the adjacent landscaping and to raise the level of the nearby sport park. The station was restored in 1997. The model follows the original working drawings which shows the water level much lower than today.
