I Like the top mounted Kossel spool holders I have seen on thingiverse, but since I mounted my extruder on top and I have some spools that are larger in diameter like those from Hatchbox, I needed to offset the center spindle toward the front of the printer in order for the spool to clear my extruder. Like elmuchcho (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:371881), I used a 3.5" HD bearing. Mine is from an old Maxtor HD.
I borrowed the spindle and centering cone ideas from the CreativeTools design. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:508896
I wanted to be able to keep the spool as close to the printers aluminum frame as possible, so the support brackets are designed in 2 parts to allow the triangular frame to sit lower inside the aluminum frame and still be printed in an orientation that doesn't expose it to delamination under the weight of the filament.
I hope someone finds this helpful. Please let me know any suggestions for changes to the design. I'm happy with how mine is working now so I probably wont redesign it, but I'm always interested in how others would do things differently.
