Scanned with the MakerBot Digitizer Desktop 3D Scanner
This is a reproduction of a medieval style stone carving of a knight on a horse. I got it on my honeymoon in Quebec many years ago.
Flat reliefs can be challenging to scan. This one is really very flat with a subtle carving. The key to getting a good scan on something like this is to not place the object in the center of the table. Instead, try offsetting it. In this case after a few tests, I found the best scan was when I placed it a few inches forward. I also painted it with some washable watered down tempera paint to get the laser to reflect well. Scanned using the "dark" setting.
I propped it up on a stack of boxes. I included the original scan straight from Digitizer and a cleaned STL where I cut off the boxes and gave it a flat back if you want to try printing it horizontally, but it will probably print best vertically.
