The youngest of Thomas and Eliza Huffaker's (original teacher who arrived in May 1951 to teach the Kaw boys) eleven children, Carl Huffaker, bought the Kaw Mission in 1926 and remodeled the building to transform it into a grand home. Carl and his wife, Bertha, modernized the building adding steam heat, electricity and indoor plumbing at that time. In the mid-1930s the Huffakers added the two-car stone garage to the property. Although it was never developed, the construction drawings included a large attic that was to be converted into chauffer's quarters. This building was remodeled in 2005-2006 and converted to its current use as an Education Center and Library. #Kansas_Historical_Society
