Kaleva Church is a modern church building built in 1964-1966. It was designed by the architect couple Raili and Reima Pietilä. The church is a well-known landmark and attraction in Tampere city area. Though the building is about 30 metres high, it has basically three floors. Some sources state that the church should look like a fish when looked from above. The building has 18 tall windows stretching from the floor to the roof. The building was meant to have 18 doors but they all are not in use. The church has 1 120 seats of which 115 is reserved for choir use. The only visible cross outside the church is on the top above the main entrance. The cross doubles as a bell tower with its three bells. The building is located on a low hill on a spacious area which increases the monumental look of the church. #church #cross #finland #kaleva #modern #pietilä #tampere
