JI airlines was founded in 1957 as a small airline catering to domestic routes in Japan. Initally using old DC-4 aircraft left over from the war, it then branched out into the international sector using DC-7 airliners bought from JAL as they upgraded to jets. This was a successful move, and it eventually grew from a small startup airline to a true corporate superpower, even eclipsing JAL in terms of international passengers. In 1976, JI airlines ordered 5 new Boeing 747-200 aircraft for use on its busy routes. The aircraft, with their increased passenger space, luxurious first- and business-class interiors and conservative, yet (at the time) attractive paint scheme made them a hit with passengers. Therefore to cater for increased passengers, JI ordered 25 secondhand aircraft in 1988. JA8354 was one of the brand-new planes, delivered in 1976 as part of the first batch. It had a long and distinguished career, flying several famous guests including the national Japanese soccer team. In 1993 the aircraft took off from Brisbane Airport in Australia, bound for Haneda airport on the 2nd leg of a routine journey. It mysteriously disappeared from radar 2 hours later, and all contact attempts failed. The plane's wreckage was found floating in the sea by two trawlers the next day. A sad end to a distinguished flying career. Model also includes a placeholder cockpit. Not the best, but simple. Livery is the '80s and early '90s one, and it is kinda crummy.
