This is my design to allow for easy fitment of an Amazon Echo Dot (2nd Generation) into a car.
The adapter fits into the cup holder and holds the Echo Dot securely by a combination of gravity and friction. Our European cars don't have large cup holders like in the USA so the Dot won't just drop in!
This is a two part design so you will need to super glue the two parts together. There are two position options when fitting the two parts together to maximise compatibility with various cup holders. You will need to use the off-centre option for a new BMW520d for example.
I have included the OpenScad files so you can customise but please share and mention as per the license.
I recommend printing in PC MAX or Inova1800 because it can get hot in a car when parked in the sun and PLA is likely to go out of shape. ABS may also be OK.
I have included a picture of my in-car WiFi setup for reference. I found that the Dot does not connect to the car via Bluetooth so you'll have to use the Aux in connector. I have used a TP Link Portable 3G/4G Wireless N Router (TL-MR3020) with a Huawei E3533 3G USB stick on EE. You might also consider the Teltonica RUT950/955 LTE 3/4G Router with Dual SIM. Overall it works fine playing podcasts, Spotify and Radio and the Drop-in feature is interesting when wanting to chat to others!
