This remix is somewhat different. I have a smaller 3D printer that has an extruder that uses the bearing holder as the spring. It also has no accessibility because the filament path is very close to the hobbed gear. I still don't like the direct drive extruders because it seems they stall at the slightest "oops" and you have to clean the filament drive teeth anytime it happens.
This extruder uses the Accessible Wade's Extruder and kind of removes the accessible by moving the filament path as close to the drive as possible. I also use a 12mm filament drive gear. I do add two springs to add just a small amount of tension to improve grip.
Note: I have installed this extruder and it works great so far. With 1.75mm filament, there is little place for the filament to bend and get stuck.
