This model was done from very basic brochure illustrations and a crude waterlines drawing. Lots of photoreferences were also used plus my personally having seen dozens of these boats hauled out for weeks at a time to deal with osmosis blisters in the boatyards. The reconstruction of the 3d model was done originally for a old school modelmaker who needed the waterlines for what is known as a 'lift model' much like what was done in the 18th century in the shipyards. Today this technique is know as 'bread and butter' modeling as it uses horizontal planks around 1/2" sawn to the wl shapes and then stacked up and pinned together with vertical dowels. Grinders, rasps and sanders take out the 'stairsteps' of the layers and then it is faired, primed and painted although I like contrasting woods for the layers and finished with lacquer or varnish clear.
A friend is now milling the model at 18" on his home made cnc router and I plan on submitting it to Shapeways for printing on demand there.
