Iraklion Air Station front gate

This is the front gate at Iraklion Air Station, island of Crete, Greece as it existed in 1965. The gate was always manned by US Air Force Air Police personnel. Note the sign printed in English and Greek. This base shut down its operation in about 1994 and the US Air Force turned the base over to the Greek government. During its nearly 40 years of operation this base provided a great assignment for thousands of airmen.
