Introduced in 1961, IBM’s Selectric electric typewriter replaced the standard “basket” of individual type bars and moveable carriage with an 88 character interchangeable golf ball sized “trackball” that skims across the stationary carriage and paper as it rotates and pivots to the desired character while striking the page. Over time, the Selectric would evolve, leading to the L-2 model, which added multiple carriage widths, updated spool type ribbon, Gen-2 Lever operated typeball, Impression Control lever, page end indicator, and copy guide, while maintaining the original L-1 Selectric’s availability in either 10 or 12 pitch models, with separate versions required to use either spooled film or cartridge fabric ribbon systems. This model represents an L-2 Selectric with 11 in. carriage and IBM cartridge fabric ribbon. Details accessed via Scene Tabs. Thanks to modeler Jh K. whose IBM Typewriter model was the basis for this version.
