The IBM 1130 was an early third-generation (integrated circuit) computer system introduced on February 11th, 1965, designed for technical, scientific and educational computing markets. Succeeding IBM’S 1959 1620 system, the 1130 was a desk-sized single user batch system console whose basic Model 1 configuration consisted of 4096 words of core memory, combination keyboard / IBM 1053 Selectric based printer and only a paper tape reader / punch (IBM Model 1134). As the system became more popular, subsequent Models 2 and 3 expanded on the Model 1 to include additional core memory, internal IBM 2315 Single Disk Cartridge drive, as well as more advanced peripherals such as additional printers, pen plotters, card punch/readers, optical page readers, and, with the use of the IBM 1133 communications adapter, the much faster IBM 1403 printer and external IBM 2311 B1/B2 multi-platter disk drives.
