The Blackhawk Hotel is an 11-story brick and terra cotta building with its architectural influences in the Italian Renaissance and modern Art Deco. The First 7-stories were built in 1915, and the top 4 were completed in 1920. It was designed by the local architecture firm Temple & Barrows. During its history, the Blackhawk was the choice of rich and famous when they visited the Quad-Cities. Former guests include: Carey Grant, Carl Sandburg, Herbert Hoover, Richard Nixon, Jack Dempsey and most recently President Barack Obama. In 2006, the hotel was damaged by a fire and went vacant. Restoration St. Louis began renovations in 2009, painstakingly returning the building back to its former glory. In December 2010, they finished the $35 million renovation. As part of the renovation an addition was added to the east side of the building. The renovation resulted in a 130 room hotel and 19 apartments. The building also now contains a day spa (Salon Luce), a florist (Milan Flower Shop), a coffee shop (Beignet Done That), a bar (Bix Lounge), a gourmet restaurant (Bix Bistro), meeting rooms and banquet facilities, as well as a bowling alley. The Hotel Blackhawk is also connected to the Rivercenter and the Adler Theatre.
