I wanted to build a sturdy, solid toy car for my grand children, which is an easy runner. To achieve this, I designed it like a wooden built toy car assembled from individual prints glued together. Thus all individual parts can be ideally positioned and optimized for printing, which helps to improve visible surfaces. This approach also allows easy customization, such as using different radiators, fenders, air intakes etc.
The various parts are aligned and reinforced with dowels made from 1/8" (3.2mm) PVC-welding-rods cut to size. The parts were subsequently glued together with UHU-All-Plastic glue. It is important to use glue sparingly.
Each wheel uses two pressed-in 623ZZ (10x3x4mm) mini bearings (8 per car). The axles are made of M3 stainless steel rods (front 81mm, rear 88mm). Each axle is laterally equal positioned into the body and secured on both sides with standard M3 nuts and washers (stainless). The wheels are then placed and fixed with M3 nylon lock nuts (stainless). Additionally, I secured all nuts with red Loctite. The spare wheel is attached with an M3x15 (16) mm Allen bolt screwed into a M3 brass insert located at the rear of the center body.
