Luristan (Lorestān) comprises a province and a historic territory of western Iran amidst the Zagros Mountains, and is one of the oldest regions of Iran, having been settled in the third and fourth millennium BCE by migrant tribes called Kassites and Elamites. Luristan was invaded and settled in the second millenium BCE by the Iranian Medes, who gradually absorbed the indigenous inhabitants of the region, primarily the Elamites and Kassites, until they themselves were conquered by the Persians in the first millennium BCE. This model depicts an ancient Luristani rapier type sword with decorated tripple rib dating to the Middle Bronze Age - approximately 1,500 to 1,200 BCE and is based on an actual sword which was recently held for auction. The blade was cast first, with the solid hilt cast separately onto the blade as a second step. The model depicts the sword as it might have looked when it was newly made - 3,600 years ago. Sword length is 51 cm. (20 in.) #bronze #bronze_age #history #Iran #Iranian #iron #iron_age #Luristan #Persia #Persian #sword #warfare #weapon
