Middle/high school teachers and remote students are able to use the six file pocket system (red) to store materials for each class/period that they participate in. Each file pocket is equipped with a slot that is able to hold a 3x5 index card, this allows the teacher/student to label each file pocket with the class/period that corresponds with the stored materials. The tote insert (white) is removable which allows for easy access and transportation of materials (i.e.. pens, pencils, erasers, tape, glue, scissors, etc.). The color coded drawers in the lower half of tote insert, maximize space efficiency which allows the user to store any less frequently used materials (i.e. pencil sharpeners, markers, crayons, colored pencils, etc.).
What issues did you come up against?
I struggled with size restrictions a lot, I had to do quite a bit of research on MakerBot 3D printers to figure out which one would be able to create my design, and if there weren't any that could how I could breakdown my designs to be more compactable.
If you could redesign this again what would you change?
I probably would make the file slots wider and thicker just so they could hold both a notebook and a folder at the same time, I originally designed them to just hold paper with a bit of wiggle room.
How would 3D printing help strengthen your design?
The precision that often comes with the 3D printing process is key for my design because the drawers and inserted tote rely on correct measurement in spacing. If anything was more than a 1/4 inch out of line then my product would not work.
