This is a halogen mr11 ceramic socket holder that can be directed to heat the model as you are printing. This is necessary for larger prints using Zillagrip Cold Bed Coating by Zilla3d.com. Zillagrip cold bed coating allows you to print a variety of plastics including Nylon, ABS, Delrin, Polycarbonate and even Polypropylene on a cold bed. You just heat the bed to up to 90 degrees to remove the model. It saves a lot of power on larger 3d printers and eliminates the biggest problem with power outages---that your model releases from the bed. Only a much smaller UPS is needed for power interuptions. On prints that are large, or higher than 12mm, and using a warping filament like ABS, Nylon or Polypropylene, the high infrared wavelength of the halogen bulbs is absorbed by the model so that the model is kept relatively warm. It accomplishes the same purpose as a warm enclosure. Our experiments showed that this is very effective in reducing warping and delamination. In fact, NASA uses this method in their experiments.
Other than the remix of the binderclip holder, all other parts are designed by us. There are many different bases to choose from so that any printer can be accomodated. The hinge uses a m3 10mm+ screw with a m3 locknut.
We recommend a 20w bulb pointing to positive Y and another to negative Y. If you connect to your part fan circuit, you can change the lights intensity or turn them on for layers higher than 10mm for example. We use 3 on the Deltazilla Large Format 3d Printer. Add a dab of silicone between bulb and socket so it doesnt vibrate out.
HALOGEN LIGHTS GET VERY HOT. THEY CAN START FIRES! BE VERY CAREFUL AND MAKE SURE THERE IS NO POSSIBLE CONTACT WITH FLAMMABLE PLASTIC.
You can purchase Zillagrip Cold Bed Coating and the associated sockets and bulbs at www.zilla3d.com. We use fire-retardent resin in our socket-holders.
