I haven't made any progress on this recently, so I'm uploading this just to put it out there, even though it's obviously not a finished article. Maybe someone can use elements from this, or see how it's constructed, if I say so myself, I think this is a good study in high-Gothic architecture from around 1200 - 1210, certainly every effort has been made to get the detains right although this is a fictional structure. A basilica type structure configured as an abbey church, the small ocular windows in the south aisle, set high on the wall are to accommodate the cloister that would be on the other side of the wall. The south transept has night stairs that would lead to the monk's dormitory, and an sanctuary leading from it, while the north transept has a standard configuration of two large doors, that could accommodate the pilgrim traffic. Surrounding the choir are radiating chapel, 11 in total. The church has a four part elevation, with a gallery (sometimes called the 'royal elevation' in France) as was common during the early stages of gothic. This model is ca. 50 mb. as it is, and I've had to strip bits of it to get it down to that size, so I don't know if I could update this, even if I do make progress on it, unless the upload limit is increased again. Credit to 'Brown Wood Inc' for some of the floral decoration in this model (has its own layer). The statue of the monk is from 'SketchUp para todos..!' I belive. Sorry, I can't find the creator of the statue of the Virgin Mary again, but it's a beautiful model. I'll answer any further questions in the comments :) Jon #abbey #architecture #basilica #building #cathedral #church #gothic #medieval #middle_ages #monastery
