This is a GoPro Session shaped 10W IR LED & current source housing. Use this on your racing quad in your gopro mount with no IR cut filter on your FPV camera to give you night vision.
The idea of this is not to flood light a football pitch it’s to give you some chance of seeing the ground which is the most difficult thing when flying night tracks.
During testing I left it running for 7 mins on the ground and found it got to around 110 degrees. During flight this will be better with the increased airflow.
Parts needed:
2x 30mm M3 screws
Some wire
10W 850nm Infrared IR LED: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232399188379
10W 900mA Constant Current LED driver: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152306659308
A JST 5pin (for 4S) female balance lead connector: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301022060771
You should use a camera with a good Min. Illumination. I use and recommend the Runcam Eagle 2 (not the pro) or the Runcam Owl. If you have deep pockets the night eagle should work even better.
You should also make sure the cameras gain is at maximum
You will need to make sure the IR cut filter is removed. Some cameras have this in the lens others have it on the sensor. In the case of the eagle 2 it has it in the lens. Many tutorials online talk about using a soldering iron to heat up the lens and remove the filter (which can be identified by the red tint it has on it). I found it easier to smash it out but be careful of all the tiny bits of glass.
