I believe a door access system should be so simple to operate and maintain that anyone could do it. In order to achieve this goal, I’ve made use of the minimum number of components and made each part easy to install. Through the use of a 2-component-molded PET cover for the keys and front of the device I’ve created a surface that is beautiful, mirrors its surroundings, can withstand high temperatures and creates a barrier against abuse. This surface is also very easy to clean and its transparent nature allows for light-based communication with the user. The hardness of the material also allows for the mounting of a speaker directly to the material surface so as to communicate with the user through sound. All this is combined in an elegantly compact package that has no sharp edges and is easy to produce.
Through the use of a silicon-rubber internal surface the keys can be depressed to provide feedback and ease of use to any blind users. The transparent nature of silicon-rubber again allows for visual communication and doesn’t hamper the audio communication because of its location inside the enclosure. At the same time, it closes off any gaps that might allow for the ingress of water or other foreign objects.
In order to reduce the number of required molds three slides in the mold can be positioned in 2 positions so as to create openings on one side of the back cover through which a card-reader can be installed, or in another position the holes will fill and the side of the back cover will be smooth. The card reader is mounted in such a way the card is held perpendicular to the wall to protect the users’ fingers.
The installation order is very straightforward:
1. Attach card reader to back cover if required
2. Place back cover in sun/rain cover, use screws to hold in place relatively to each other
3. Screw the back cover to the wall in the correct position
4. Install PCB and attach necessary wires
5. Attach wire from speaker to PCB
6. Click front panel into position
7. Done.
In order to release the front cover for maintenance a special key is required. This key has three discrete prongs that operate three discrete clips on the inside of the device. Only when all three clips have been completely depressed will it be possible to remove the front cover. The clips cover the holes for the prongs so as to prevent ingress of foreign objects through the opening.

In short:
Beautiful high gloss front finish
Elegantly compact
Minimal shape through maximal use of material properties
Ergonomic keys that need to be depressed to activate
High tech use of materials and material properties
Rugged/durable materials that maximize vandal resistance
Blends into the surrounding through the use of colors and reflection
