Built in the Georgian style that dominates East Campus, the Friedl Building served as the original science building for the Womans College. Renovations in 1969 converted the building into a home for the Duke University Museum of Art for the next 35 years. The museum closed in 2004 and moved its entire collection to the Nasher Museum of Art building on Anderson Street. The Friedl Building has recently been renovated and now houses Cultural Anthropology, Literature, African and African-American Studies, Latino/a Studies, Critical US Studies, and the Duke Human Rights Center.
