Margaret Mead, a famed cultural anthropologist, once said, “We won’t have a society if we destroy the environment.” My design is a flower with purple leaves, symbolic of the peace and unity that the color represents, and can attach to the flashlight part of the average IPhone. I decided to create a flashlight attachment in the shape of a purple flower to highlight the main method that plants receive energy - photosynthesis - and remind individuals to act environmentally friendly and conscious whenever possible. This art highlights the fact climate change is real - regardless of what anyone may say - and our small actions can have a significant impact on our generations as well as future generations. The IPhone flashlight will still work as I have created holes to allow light through the 3D printed stamen of the flower, mirroring how real life flower look like. This accessory can also be used as a cover for the IPhone camera as more and more individuals become concerned with privacy in light of technological advancements in the fields of hacking and intelligence gathering. It was difficult to create the petals due to the necessary curved and tapering design of most flower petals, and the need to layer the petals in a realistic and often haphazard manner. This layering of the petals took a majority of my time in constructing my design. I made this with the assistance of Joseph Defalco. I made this for FDM technology for PFL plastic.
