THIS IS MY OLD STAND. My new stand, the OmniStand, fits more filament spool sizes, and works for the right and left side of the FlashForge Dreamer. The OmniStand is found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:652415
This modified FlashForge Dreamer spool holder includes a replacement stand, a detachable spool rod, and a spool rod cover that enlarges the rod's diameter. These are designed to replace the original stock black spool stand and rod that comes with the older FlashForge Dreamer versions.
THIS SPOOL HOLDER IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH THE LATEST VERSION OF THE DREAMER (see photo 2). FlashForge changed the design. If you have the latest Dreamer with 2 cooling fans on the back, and a clear door, this spool holder will NOT fit that model without modifications. The newer printers have 2 posts that are in the way. I don't know the measurements of the 2 posts. I would like to modify this holder to work for both new and old printers. If anyone knows the measurements of the 2 new posts in relation to the 2 screw holes please post about it so that I can update the design to work for both new and older printers. Thanks.
The rod is 8.5 mm longer than the stock black rod.
The stand is 41.25 mm taller than the stock black stand.
When attaching the new stand, you need to take off the Dreamer's bottom and unscrew the original stand from the bottom. Do not unscrew the stand from the top or the nut on the bottom will come lose and potentially get lost.
Screw the original stand's screws into the new stand before attaching the new stand to the Dreamer using the original nuts. ONLY USE ON THE LEFT SIDE. See below.
These use the same rod connection point so the rod is compatible with the original black spool stand. This new spool stand and rod allows you to use much larger filament spools. It can accommodate filament rolls as large as 200 mm in diameter by 56 mm wide.
Tested filament rolls which fit this modified spool holder include:
MG Chemicals 0.25 kg
Filamex 0.5 kg
Ninjaflex 0.5 kg
ZenToolworks 1.0 kg
ASAPTech 1.0 kg
MG Chemicals 0.25 kg, and Filamex 0.5 kg filament rolls do not require the new stand, but do require the new filament rod. They do not fit the stock filament rod that ships with the Dreamer because it's not long enough.
The rod cover piece makes the rod diameter a bit larger to match the outer diameter of the stand connection point. This piece is needed for some filament rolls to work properly. For example, ZenToolworks 1.0 kg rolls require this rod cover to operate properly, while FlashForge rolls work without the cover attached..
NOTE: THIS IS FOR THE LEFT SIDE ONLY. The Dreamer has filament holders on the right and left side. Installing this spool holder on the right side is not recommended because it can cause the filament spool to touch the Y axis stepper motor. I am looking into this problem.
