The Federation of Southern Arabia (in Arabic: اتحاد الجنوب العربي Ittihad al-Janūb al-'Arabî) was an organization of states under British protection in what was to become the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen. The Federation was established on April 4, 1962 by the 15 states of the Federation of the United Arab Emirates of the South. On January 18, 1963 it was merged with the colony of the Crown of Aden. In June 1964 the Sultanate of Aulaqi Superior also joined, reaching a total of 17 member states. A team was sent to the 8th British Empire and Commonwealth Games held in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1966. The Federation was abolished after the fall of all the monarchies of the member countries and the birth of the Democratic People's Republic of Yemen on November 30 1967. #south #arabia #flag #Yemen
