The flag of the British Virgin Islands was adopted on November 15, 1960. Like many other flags of British overseas territories it is a Blue Ensign bearing the flag of the United Kingdom on the canton and the British Virgin Islands emblem on the windward side . There is a version of the flag with red to replace the blue, the Red Ensign, which must be used by any kind of boat whether they are registered in the British Virgin Islands or visiting the islands. The Governor of the British Virgin Islands uses the British flag with the emblem of the islands in the center.
