This is a neat little electronics component tester. It's made mainly for transistors but also works on inductors, resistors, mosfets, capacitors and many other components.
There are several different versions but his one seems to be the most popular. Some come with a larger LCD but the base for it is the same size as the ones for the smaller LCD (on most versions).

It uses a 9 VDC battery to power it so I added a battery compartment to the cradle or caddy (whatever you'd like to call it).
It has an Off switch on the board itself but it still drains current as long as it's plugged into the battery so the onboard Off switch is really more like a Standby and Reset button. Rather than modify it as some have done, I simply added a Circuit board Pushbutton switch with a power status LED to eliminate the need to disconnect it from the battery after using it.
I chose to only enclose the sides and bottom since those areas are the only parts exposed to the possibility of short circuiting.
This is a tool that is more likely to be used at the workbench so I didn't make a cover for it.
I also added four stick on rubber feet to the bottom.
This can be machined or made with a 3D printer.

Some can be ordered with a cover or totally enclosed but are considerably more expensive. This one is only about $20 depending on where you buy it and is quite accurate.

I hope this helps! :-)
