This design forms the basis for the integration of IOT (Internet of Things) into modern firefighting helmets. In using parts based on mounts currently used in the popular fire helmet model, the Cairns 1044, this design allows current, existing fire helmets to be improved with little effort required. Not only does this reduce the cost needed to purchase or install new technologies, but it allows the firefighting community to maintain tradition, a very important element to this community, by incorporating new technologies in an unintrusive and noninvasive manner. The mounts in this design can simply be screwed on in place of current mounts, and act as adapters to connect sensors and appliances. The cylindrical adapter on the mount below the rim of the helmet allows for the addition of a light source, to allow the firefighter to improve his / her visibility in dark environments. The button panel mounted above the rim allows for the incorporation of user input, which can allow the firefighter to control his / her lighting and radio channel, toggle between listen and talk, and even sound an emergency alarm (the recessed button) in the case of an emergency. Through the implementation of an on board microprocessor located inside the helmet, this alarm can also be sounded by inputs from other sensors which could easily be mounted along the rim of the helmet. The parts were designed to be producible through FDM with PLA, ABS, or other standard filaments, but would be most effective using injection molding with thermoplastics for actual use of the helmet.
