I keep my filament spools on a rod made of 3/4" schedule 40 PVC pipe because it's cheap. During printing, I manually turn the spool to keep slack in the filament so my extruder doesn't slip. This device adds a bearing to the spool so it will roll freely without manual help.
This Thing is written in OpenSCAD and is customizable. Therefore, it will work with any spool and any rod combination as long as the rod fits inside the spool's axial hole, and for smaller rods you may need smaller bearings.
