The two sides just twist lock together, no glue or screws needed. Center hole is 35mm in diameter. Should be printable with about 14.2 meters of 1.75mm filament ( less than a standard filament sample from maker box of about 16m) going off of the estimate from my slicer (xyzware pro). Pics above show the remainder of the filament after printing only the spool and the type of filament, though I see no reason why this couldnt be printed with any type of filament. settings I am using of are 0.2mm layers, 3 shells, 3 top layers, 3 bottom layers, and 10% infill. The infill is somewhat important because there will be 4 layers of it on both sides of the spool. You can print it solid but will not be able to get both peices out of one roll of sample filament then. The two parts are not in the proper printing orientation, not exactly sure why, I design them upright but then they seem to get flipped when converting to stl. Also only print the files ending with pt1 and pt2
In testing I found out that not all sample rolls have the same inner diameter. I measured all 32 samples i have and found 12 that would fit a 130mm spool, 13 at 120mm, and 6 that need 110 or less. I sized the roll to just under 120 mm since that was the most common, but the sides are still tall enough that the outside of a large roll will not slip off. Smaller samples will just need to be wound onto it by hand. I may make a small drill attachment for doing this winding in the future if this seems to be too much of a pain to do by hand.
