Use an empty spool. Cut off one end using a regular hand saw. The dial print just slides on and the 's' shaped spokes keep it in place. Just slide the dial to the correct time to adjust.
The sled and base have screw holes for 3mm nuts and bolts. The nuts go into the slots and allow for a very tight fit. The arrow points to the degree scale. This is in 10 degrees and the '3' stands for 30 degrees with each bump 10 degrees. The gnomon is 2.5 mm a coat hanger or #12 copper romex is 2.5mm dia. About 5 inches.
