The Egeria Lodge 167 building is one of the oldest structures in Yampa Colorado, known as the Gateway to the Flattops, a sizable National Forest wilderness area nearby. Currently used by the A.F.& A.M Masonic and Rebekah lodges for regular meetings. It was originally built in 1891 by and for the Woodmen of the World Lodge. Used as an opera house and movie theater in the 1930s, it was later the community center and school district meeting hall. In the early 20th Century, Yampa was the central and largest town in NW Colorado until the Moffat (rail) Road came through in 1908, then the communities further North and West benefited from the improved freight transportation and eventually outgrew Yampa. A number of these 'false front' style commercial buildings were put up in the rural communities of the developing West. Many thanks to Mrs. Rita Herold for these historic details. #80483 #co #colorado #flattops #gateway #historic #rural #yampa
