The Dremel Slicer tool will help you to make perfectly straight cuts in many materials with a rotary tool such as the Dremel 4000.
Print the parts provided, two of the base part. Note that there are two different sizes of the Base, print ONE of those two, twice. Dremel_Slicer_Base is shown in the pictures, Dremel_Slicer_Base_Short is the same thing but it holds the cutting board about 6mm lower. Again, print two of the same, not one of each.
In addition to the printed parts you will need two 8mm steel shafts, four LM8UU linear bearings, a 4mm x 35mm bolt and nut, a 3mm x 60mm steel shaft, and two small sheet metal or wood screws. You will also need a Dremel 4000 or similar rotary tool.
All of the above parts, except for the bearings, I salvaged from old equipment but they should be fairly easy to find online. The 8mm shafts came out of a couple of old inkjet printers, the 3mm shaft came from an old CD ROM drive they pretty much all have one. If you cannot find the 3mm shaft, a 3mm or 1/8 screw should work as well.
The length of the board will need to be at least as long as your 8mm shafts are. My board is 12mm or 1/2 inch thick. A 3/4 board will bring the work closer to the shaft of the Dremel if that is what you need. The short base will move the work further away from the Dremel shaft.
Jan 16 Update: I replaced the Carriage and the Hinge files. I reworked the hinge mechanism somewhat, I believe the Dremel will be sturdier than it was prior. It should also be a tad bit easier to print. Yes, I replaced the 123dx file as well. :)
A note on licensing. I appreciate credit and kudos for my work, everyone does. I do not disallow commercial use of my work. If you can make a buck or two off of this then good for you, go for it! But remember where it came from. If you find it useful then buy me a beer. If you use it to make money, then buy me a six-pack. Enjoy!
