The Door of Hope Centre (formerly Coats Patons Building) is a somewhat iconic structure in the city of Launceston. Originally built as a textile mill, the first stage of the building was completed in July 1923. In 1933, the factory was extended, increasing its area of over fifty percent. Another significant extension took place in 1955. Coats Patons was a major employer in Launceston for much of the twentieth century. The factory closed in 1997. The facility was purchased by the Door of Hope Christian Church (formerly Launceston Church of Christ) in approx 2002 and converted into a new home for the church, plus a facility for the community. It now houses an auditorium, cafe, gym, and a number of businesses. (source: door-of-hope.org) #Church #Coats #Factory #Historic #Launceston #Patons
