Project Statement: Students and teachers alike are finding that they are using common areas, like the kitchen table, as workspaces. This requires them to remain organized and still be able to clear the common area in preparation for activities like eating meals. This design is really simple and easy to use, as well as has appealing looks. The top layer of this design has multiple storage areas to keep pencils, paperclips, post its, etc. There are creative storage spaces ad 2 of them with lids to keep the things inside safe. If needed, the round storage spaces can be used to keep a glass or small mug. The middle layer can be used to keep papers and mails and stc. The bottom layer can be used to store any electronics devices that fit, or even other books and papers, etc. We have also provided with wedges that when places between the layers, will keep the layers at an angle, keeping it open. The hinges have also been modified so that they dont require using screws or the rod in the middle when putting it on. The only thing is that the hinges would have to be printed together, as an assembly, with fillements placed. Having this as a 3D designed will makes sure that they are no problems while creating the whole design physically and also once printed, it is an easy, simple and unique design.
What issues did you come up against? An issue that we came up against was coming up with an idea for hinge so that it will be easy to place in the design as well as not having it too small that it would break after 3D printing. Another problem we faced was getting the design as simple as possible, yet making it different and appealing.
If you could redesign this again what would you change? If we were to redesign this, we would try to add more storage spaces and try to make it different from the other designs that already exists. We would also want to add a lock that will keep the whole design closed together when we pick it up from the handle.
How would 3D printing help strengthen your design? 3D printing would be helpful because the way we have designed our hinges, would make it so much more easy to print the assembled hinge and add it to our design as well as make the whole design super light and easy to carry.
