From writing everyday tasks in a planar and organizing my desk before I left for classes, my desk now has pens, papers, and post-it notes everywhere. My design for a desk organizer will serve as a notebook/folder holder, a pen organizer, a phone station, and as a to-do list. While desk space is limited, this design runs along the perimeter of the left corner. The notebook/folder holder will help with organizing any lecture notes/homework, while the to-do section which runs along the back of the desk acts as a black canvas for post-it note reminders. The pen/pencil organizer will allow for frequently used writing utensils, and finally, the phone station with a charging hole at the bottom allows for students to keep their phone at a reachable distance, while being able to flip the screen around for less distractions.
While designing the desk organizer, one concern that I came up with was the thickness of the design. I was unsure of how much weight it could hold, and if the initial design would be able to balance. Initially, my design only was along the back wall; however, after reevaluating, I decided to add the notebook/folder holder which provided further support and more practicality to the design. If I had the chance to redesign this device, I would add a hook, and I would change the post-it note section to be compatible with holding a small white board. The purpose of the hook could be for hanging objects like a set of headphones or a mask, and the whiteboard holder would serve as an alternative environmental friendly to-do list. With 3D printing, I can make my design more precise. Not having the ability to 3D print this design would make the pen holder, charging hole, and filaments along the design especially difficult to create due to the circular edges.
