Custom 8,000 S.F. Residence for Don Lindsay (Teck Resources, President/CEO))

This is a super-luxurious custom timberframe and log home in Whistler, B.C. Canada – 2007. I was hired before construction began due to the original "architects" being fired. The original design was a disaster, with unresolved structural, aesthetic, and functional design flaws, as well as numerous issues with the framing connections, material selections, exterior look/feel, poor window/door design and layout, etc.

I redesigned and/or adjusted almost every facet/part of this house, created a virtual solid model of the entire framing (1/64th tolerance), foundation, slabs, steel connection details, and re-designed two very unique stair sets (interior & exterior). I coordinated my 3D model with the timber/log/joinery manufacturer and supplier, as well as the window manufacturer, the building envelope consultant (expert/author in sustainable/green design), and others.

This is a vacation/entertaining home for Don Lindsay, a billionaire mining CEO (Teck Resources - gold, coal, tar sands, copper, etc.). It is built next door to his other vacation mansion, both with million dollar views of Whistler/Blackcomb mountain ski slopes... home of the 2010 Winter Olympics (Teck Resources provided the metal for the Olympic medals).

I was "undocumented" at the time, under-paid with cash each week, denied my overtime hours, and slept in my truck or on the filthy job-site trailer floor, with no heat for 3-4 weeks, until I could afford to rent my own place. After I quit due to poor treatment and pay, it took 3.5 years for me to get paid money that was withheld, but only after I created a website to expose Don's involvement and threatened to sue. His brother-in-law (Craig Ross) was the builder who hired me "off the books", but Don was fully aware of everything and asked to be kept at "an arms length away" from me. He would not even recognize my presence in design meetings and would never look at or speak to me. He did, allegedly, offer to allow me to temporarily use his spare basement suite next door, but his sister, allegedly didn't think this was a good idea; I temporarily stayed with her and her husband.
