The cube can be dissected (or rather trisected, if you like) in so many ways for puzzles. Here is a Reid dissection that results in three congruent pieces. It takes three copies to make a cube. It is simple to assemble.
To understand the idea behind this Reid dissection, take a 2 x 2 x 2 cube, which has 8 unit cubes. Each unit cube can be dissected into six congruent square-based pyramids. A 2^3 cube therefore has 48 pyramids, which can be divided into 3 groups, each of which is a puzzle piece.
