Standing on the Shoulders of a Giant
It's been years since Tinkering_On_Steroids created the truly excellent printer parts to turn the Cobblebot Vanguard into a truly awesome printer after Cobblebot (now defunct) dropped the ball with the delivery of the Kickstarter for their Vanguard printer. Now, I am revisiting that excellent work, and making a few changes.
For those watching this project, the parts I am modifying are green, and the original parts designed by Tinkering_On_Steroids are orange. One exception, though, on this version of the printer, the 'zslider_left30.stl' and 'zslider_right30.stl' on the original printer are printed flipped, so that the left is on the right and right is on the left. There is a good reason for this, and it'll be obvious by the time these parts are complete.
Improvements
Adding MGN12 rails for smoother linear motion on the Y-, and probably, X- axes
Changing the orientation of the Y-Axis rails to get ~20mm extra Z height
Change to using one stepper motor to control both Z-axis screws for more reliability
Use of 20-tooth Z-axis motor pulley and 40-tooth pulley on screws for better Z-axis resolution (60 micron for fine prints, 120 micron for standard prints) instead of the 100 micron precision of the original printer
Allows the use of a Titan Aero direct drive extruders
Ready for Primetime
These parts are ready for printing, however, they might be modified in the future.
Y-axis endstop switch holder
Y-axis connectors
Additional Parts
These are the additional parts that are needed to complete this version of the printer. Cobblebot backers shouldn't be surprised that they'll need to spend additional money to get their printer working.
(2) MGN12 rails and sliders for the Y-axis
(1) MGN12 rail and slider for the X-axis (probably)
(1) 20-tooth pulley for the Z-axis motor
(2) 40-tooth pulleys for the Z-axis screws
More to come
Note
This is a work in progress, and parts will change before it is complete. Currently using Sketchup for the modifications, because that's what Tinkering_On_Steroids used, but I cannot guarantee that the final parts will remain in that app--the free web version is quite limited in the tools that are available, and the precision isn't as tight as other apps.
