Overview:
The first home-grown mech for Colonial Tractors and the Fronc Reaches, the
Cimarrón is also an example of the growing cooperation, both technicall and
financial, between the Aliance for Progess.Using the Clint sold at a friendly price by Pinard Protectorates Limited,
Colonial Tractors converted the troubled Clint in a new recon/advanced training
mech for the growing Marshalry Academy.
Capabilities:
The lead designer, Dr. Nwabudike Gutierrez, choose to save weigth by using an
Endo-Steel skeleton (made posible only by a generous deal with Taurus
Territorial Industries) and a home-constructed Magna Extra-Light made posible
thanks to the technical assistance from Fray Beltran Foundries. While some
complained about the expenses both in development of such tecnologies,a nd its
application on the mech, the Fronc goverment applacate such concerns with the
generous loan from the Alliance members.Gone is the troubling Andora-made gyro, replaced for a model more similar to
the mechs produced in the region. The same could be said of the Communications
and T&T system, both not only common in the region, but Sphere-wide.The main weapon is a licenced Magna Firestar ERPPC, backed by the Harvester 20K
SRM system. To deal with minor threaths, 2 Extended Range Medium Lasers and a
Small Pulse Laser (all licenced from O'Hara Industries from the Marian
Hegemony) provive enough firepower to deal with small vehicles and infantry.
One curious incident is the localtion of the ERPPC. When asked why of its
localtion, the left handed Dr. Gutierrez answered "Why the &$%& not?. To quell
some concerns from right-handed pilots, the designing team arranged the power
couplings and actuators clamps so the lower arms can be exchanged to accomodate
the preferances of right handed pilots.The last concern was that the ample firepower could overwhelm the refrigeration
system, but this was made on porpouse, to tech the aspiring mechwarriors on the
tactic of bracketting and heat managment. For similar reason auxiliary
navigational system were instaled to easy the piloting.
Battle History:
So far the Cimarrón is quite new, but its first live tests was against a small
raiding party from the Magistracy of Canopus,were it showed and aceptable
performance in scouting the movement of the raiding force, and dealing with the
supporting elements of the same force.
Deployment:
The Cimarrón is beign deployed with the training battalion of the Marshalry
Academy and the 1st Fronc Cuirassiers, but already all the Alliance fro
Progress members are making inquirings to adquire some for their own academies
and training units.
Variants:
There no oficial variant yet, but the designing team is analizing the
BattleRoms of the Canopian raid to create a new variant to counter the use of
C3i nets used by the raiders.
Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
Section Leader Noriko Shuan-Velar: A recent recruit of the 1st Fronc
Cuirassiers, she was asigned one of the new Cimarròns and scouted the advanced
of the Canopian raiding force that was advancing towards Ayms and the Colonial
Tractors facility. It was the information provided by her and her lance that
allowed the Cuirassiers main force to ambush the canopian raiders in a tigh
spot 20 km from Ayms. It was also her lance the one that engaged the retreating
convencional forces of the raiders,a nd accounted the destruction of at least
three combat hovers and a great number of infantry.
