This Character model contains 2 different outfits. Select character body mesh and see outfit masks in modifier stack, that coincides for masking faces underneath outfit. Enable or disable their. I included the whole body mesh, in the case where it may be desired.
If selecting things are sluggish or slow to respond to a selection. Maybe try selecting objects, bones for animating, etc. in the Outliner Editor. Also run 1 viewer only, turn off all sub surf and particle systems viewer mode, and knock render level on subs down to 1, may help if need be.
