Built in 1929 for the Union Carbide and Carbon Corporation, the Carbide & Carbon building towers over Michigan Avenue 37 floors and 503 ft (153m). Designed by the Burnham Brothers, the Art Deco skyscraper was built to resemble a dark green champagne bottle with gold foil. This was accomplished with black granite, dark green terra cotta and gold leaf accents. The building was designated a Chicago Landmark in 1996, and in 2004 was converted into the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago. Model created by Matt Brown. #Art_Deco #Bryant_Park_Hotel #Burnham_Brothers #Carbide #Carbon #Chicago #Daniel_Burnham #Hard_Rock_Hotel #Hubert_Burnham #IL #Illinois #Landmark #Michigan_Avenue #skyscraper #Union
