UPDATE 09-05: Model updated to v1.3. Not a major update, only difference compared with v1.2 is aesthetic. New photo renders are added, all source files are now included and the usage licence is changed from CC to GPL. Enjoy using this model, please share all your suggestions and remarks!
UPDATE 09-02: Thanks to the suggestions of Thorn (https://youmagine.com/designs/cable-chain#!comments), I have updated the model to v1.2. I have changed back one of the two main changes in v1.1 and added slits to the female tabs, mating the links should not be a problem anymore. Photo renders are not updated yet, still renders of v1.0.
UPDATE 07-02: Thanks to the suggestions, I have update the model from v1.0 to v1.1. Photo renders are not updated yet.
This cable chain is different from other cable chains on YouMagine and Thingiverse, because it uses a slightly different connection method. With this connection type, no corners stick out when the cable chain is bent and the individual links are turned with respect to each other.
This cable chain is meant to be used in a 3d printer like a Prusa. Start and end connection parts are not included in the design, maybe I will add them later. Or add them yourself, I have included the Solidworks source files, feel free to redesign!
Printing this thing can be hard, so be careful! In my experience, you get the best results when printing not too fast and use enough support material. Turning the object in a horizontal position can be useful. A fan to cool down the object is recommended.
On my P3Steel, I used the following slicer settings to get a good result: (I used Cura 15)
0.1mm layer height, 0.9mm shell thickness, 100% infill, 50mm/s print speed, 220C hotend temperature, 100C bed temperature, 15% lined touching buildplate support, 16 lines brim adhesion.
Filament: Real Dutch ABS from Reprapworld.
