Butterfly valves are a family of quarter-turn rotational motion valves that are used in pipelines to shut-off flow. It's common knowledge that flow can be controlled via butterfly valves. It is not advised to do this, though, since it may harm the valve disk and impair its sealing qualities.
They have a broad range of use cases, particularly in flow isolation, and are utilized in a wide number of process media and industries, particularly in water supply, collection, and distribution as well as pumping stations.
Among their main advantages over other valve families are their compact design and straightforward manufacture, which lead to lighter and less expensive final products with smaller installation footprints and quicker actuation rates.
