The 16,000 seat Jordan Center on Penn State’s University Park campus hosts circuses, sports exhibitions, family shows, commencements, lectures, and Big Ten Basketball, as well as some of the top-name performers in the music entertainment industry. The BJC is the largest facility of its kind in the area and serves as the biggest entertainment complex in Central Pennsylvania. The quantities of materials used in the construction are staggering: 3,100 tons of structural steel, 26,000 cubic yards of concrete and 5,600 tons of precast concrete (seating). The highest point from the floor to the roof is 126 feet. The Jordan Center, funded through state and private dollars at a cost of $55 million, was built to be a major source of athletic, academic, conference and entertainment excitement in Central Pennsylvania for decades to come. The BJC has a large performance area for sports and concerts in addition to practice courts, banquet halls, and meeting rooms. Construction on the 400,000 square foot building was begun in 1993. The winter of ’94 set construction back a few months, but the building was finally completed in January of 1996. #arena #basketball #Big_Ten #Bryce_Jordan_Center #entertainment #Penn_State #sports #venue
