I was not very happy with my wanhao i3, I got tired of replacing things every couple of 100 hours.
I looked at other designs but wanted something very strong, my print requirements aren't that high but I do hate it when things break.
So far (aprox. 300 hours) it's been great, I really like the igus twe "bearings".
I also wanted a design that was easy to make bigger, my printer can print 240x245x200.
I think up to 40x40 would be possbible without that many changes.
The carriage doesn't have a print cooling fan, I never need one as I only print ABS.
Should there be interest I could design something.
I you're interested you can contact me, I don't yet have a list of materials or a build manual (this last is less of an issue)
Time is a bit limited on my end and writings stuff (in English) also goes slow (for me),
if I do have some time, I will further document.
The total cost is between 800 and 1200 euros I think, depends a bit on what motors and electronics.
For me this is great value, my wahao ended costing that some amount and this printer can actually print square things with 90 degree corners, something the wanhao has always failed to do.
making Y larger is easy (I couldn't because mine sits in an enclosure, a server cabinet).
making Z larger is also very easy, X is a bit more difficult but also doable.
The entire design is in openscad, the openscad files are a bit of a mess, I'll try and clean them up before I upload them.
I you live around Belgium I could help you set everything up and/or print you the parts you need.
I printed all parts in formfutura titan abs on my kossel from reprap.cn , not a very precise printer, the parts are designed in such a way that this isn't that big of a deal.
There is a movie on youtube of the printer printing:https://youtu.be/WWbVHgDhoY8
